How can you spot a fake Real Madrid 2012/13 away shirt? Genuine vs counterfeit
The Real Madrid away shirt from the 2012/13 season is popular. Unfortunately, there are also many fake versions in circulation that look quite similar to the original shirt at first glance.
The correct color, sponsor, and even the correct Product Code are not enough to determine authenticity.
In this guide, we compare an original Real Madrid 2012/13 away shirt with a fake one. Among other things, we look at the club logo, Adidas logo, labels, seams, ventilation zones, and the finishing on the inside.
Product Code
The Product Code is often checked first. That is a good idea. However, never look only at the code. We had several fake shirts with the correct code.
The fake shirt we use for this guide also has the correct Product Code.
This clearly shows why you should never assess a shirt solely on the basis of the Product Code. A fake manufacturer can simply copy an existing code.
So first check whether the code belongs to the correct shirt, but then always continue by checking other features.
The Real Madrid logo
The club logo is one of the best features for comparing both shirts side by side.
Several small details differ on the fake version. For example, look at the red and green parts of the logo. The shapes and proportions are not exactly the same as on the original.
The cross on top of the crown also differs. The shape of the fake version is different. It is larger and not properly aligned. The inside of the logo is thicker than on the original.
These are small differences, so preferably compare the logo with a clear photo of a verified original.
The Adidas logo
The Adidas logo on the chest also shows several differences.
The letters on the fake shirt are thinner than those on the original. This is especially noticeable when both logos are placed side by side.
Also look at the letter i. The dot above the i has incorrect proportions in the fake version and appears too long.
The three stripes of the Adidas logo are not entirely correct. On the fake shirt, they are less tight and straight than on the original.
The size marking
The printed size information on the inside of the neck is also important.
On the counterfeit shirt, the font used differs from the original. The colors of the print also differ.
In addition, the counterfeit has the following American size:
XL/MEN
On the original shirt we are comparing, the addition MEN should not be there.
Climacool font
The Climacool marking is located at the bottom of the shirt.
Here too, the main difference lies in the font. On the counterfeit shirt, the letters are clearly more angular. On the original, the letters have a rounder shape.
The stitching
Not all differences are in the logos or labels.
The construction of the shirt also differs. The counterfeit has one seam on the sleeve. The original shirt has two seams there.
Also check the inside of the shirt. The stitching is often finished more carelessly on counterfeit versions.
The fabric
The fabric of a counterfeit shirt often feels different from the original. It is usually smoother, thinner, and more stretchy.
Adidas uses Climacool technology for the fabric of this specific shirt. Counterfeit versions do not. They use the cheapest material to imitate a shirt.
The difference is difficult to see in a photo, but feel the fabric carefully.
The ventilation zone
Another clear difference can be found in the material's ventilation zones.
On the original shirt, this zone has a more open structure. This allows air to pass through the material more easily.
On the counterfeit shirt, the ventilation structure appears to have been imitated, but the material is much denser. As a result, the zone is practically closed.
As mentioned in the heading above, counterfeit shirts do not use Climacool technology. This has therefore been visually imitated, but it does not have the same properties at all as an original shirt with Climacool technology.
The wash label
The wash label also deserves attention.
On this specific counterfeit shirt, the font used does not match the original. Look at the size and spacing of the letters. The letters are also printed less thickly than those on the original.
How can you tell if your Real Madrid 2012/13 away shirt is authentic?
Always look at the overall picture.
The counterfeit shirt shows multiple deviations. The club crest and Adidas logo differ. The size marking and Climacool font are incorrect. The sleeve construction differs, and the ventilation zone is denser.
The care label and the stitching on the inside are also different.
Perhaps the most important point is that the product code is correct. A correct code does not automatically mean that a football shirt is original.
Always compare multiple components.
