All Lionel Messi World Cup jerseys: from debut in 2006 to the last World Cup in 2026
Few players have worn as many World Cup jerseys as Lionel Messi. Messi has participated in six World Cups. Only Cristiano Ronaldo has participated in as many World Cups. Messi debuted as a teenager in 2006 and later became a world champion in 2022.

2006 World Cup - Germany
Messi's first World Cup jersey is an instant classic. Adidas's design is one of the first that comes to mind when you think of an Argentina jersey and Messi.
Messi mainly made substitute appearances in that tournament. In his debut, he played for 16 minutes, providing an assist and scoring in a 6-0 victory over Serbia. That goal made him the youngest Argentine goal scorer in a World Cup at the time.
Messi participated in 2 more matches. Once as a starter, ironically against the Dutch National Team.
Argentina was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Germany. Messi did not play in that match.
2010 World Cup - South Africa
Four years later, Messi arrived as one of the tournament's biggest stars.
Messi did not score in 5 matches in this tournament. He provided 1 assist in the round of 16 against Mexico (1-3 win). In the quarter-finals, Argentina was eliminated by Germany (4-0).
2014 World Cup - Brazil
Unlike 2010, the 2014 World Cup was much more successful for Lionel Messi and Argentina. Argentina reached the final, but lost after extra time to Germany (1-0).
Messi scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist in 7 matches this tournament. He was named the best player of the tournament.
2018 World Cup - Russia
The 2018 World Cup was much less successful than the previous one.
Argentina narrowly survived the group stage. A goal from Messi against Nigeria ensured Argentina progressed from the group stage.
After the group stage, their journey ended immediately. Argentina was knocked out of the tournament against France. A spectacular match (4-3) in which Messi provided 2 assists was the end of their run.
2022 World Cup - Qatar
This is undoubtedly the most important World Cup jersey, or perhaps just jersey, in Lionel Messi's career.
Argentina became world champions, and Messi played spectacularly throughout the tournament. Despite a tough start, losing to Saudi Arabia, Messi managed to recover.
Messi scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in 7 matches. He scored 2 goals in the final.
2026 World Cup - USA, Canada and Mexico
Twenty years after his World Cup debut, Messi is back.
The story of Messi and this jersey is yet to be written, but the jersey is special. Argentina will play this World Cup with a world champion badge.
The beginning is very promising. Messi scored 3 goals in his first match, a 3-0 victory over Algeria. With these goals, he is the joint all-time leading World Cup scorer.
