The KNVB logos on Orange World Cup shirts this century

If there's one element that always appears on a football shirt, it's the national association's logo.

On the Dutch national team's kit, the KNVB logo has been on the chest for decades, but over the years, its shape, color, and design have changed regularly.

Some changes were small, while others were immediately noticeable. Especially on World Cup shirts, Nike and the KNVB often add something extra to the logo.

An overview of the KNVB logos on Oranje's World Cup shirts this century.

2006 World Cup

For the 2006 World Cup, the Netherlands used the modern KNVB logo introduced in the late nineties.

The familiar design with the lion, crown, and KNVB letters was centrally placed on the chest, this time on a light blue badge.

2010 World Cup

At the 2010 World Cup, the KNVB logo remained largely unchanged. The only difference was the badge on which the logo was embroidered.

The emblem was placed on the left chest and, together with the black details, formed one of the shirt's main distinguishing features.

Because the shirt's design itself was quite minimalist, the logo received extra attention.

This is still one of the most famous logos in Dutch football history, not least because they reached the World Cup final.

2014 World Cup

The 2014 World Cup brought one of the most striking KNVB logos of this century.

That year, the KNVB celebrated its 125th anniversary. Therefore, both the home and away shirts featured a special anniversary version of the logo.

The badge was based on historical KNVB emblems and included the years 1889 and 2014.

On the away shirt, the logo was also rendered in orange, making it stand out immediately against the dark blue background.

Of all World Cup shirts since 2000, this is probably the most unique KNVB badge.

2022 World Cup

For the 2022 World Cup, Nike once again opted for a modern rendition of the KNVB logo.

The badge remained close to the familiar design but received a slightly sleeker finish that aligned well with the shirt's overall look. This time, the logo was orange on a black badge.

In terms of details, hardly anything was changed. The years 1889 and 2014 have been removed.

2026 World Cup

For the 2026 World Cup, the KNVB logo will again play a striking role.

Although the basic design remains the same, Nike has opted for an iridescent finish. This causes the logo to subtly change color depending on the light. This is only the case for the authentic version of the shirt. The regular, fan version does not have this.

Which KNVB logo stands out?

If you compare the World Cup shirts of this century, two versions especially stand out.

The 2014 anniversary logo because of its historical reference to 125 years of KNVB.

And the new 2026 logo because of its modern iridescent finish.

Nevertheless, it remains striking how recognizable the KNVB logo has remained throughout the years. While shirts, colors, and details changed, the lion always remained the fixed centerpiece of Oranje.
