If you think of the Brazilian national football team of the past 15 years, you automatically think of Neymar.
From his first World Cup on home soil to the quarter-final against Croatia in Qatar: Neymar played in multiple generations of Brazil shirts that have now become instantly recognisable.
A look back at all the World Cup shirts Neymar wore for Brazil.
2014 World Cup - The home World Cup in Brazil
Brazil's home shirt for the 2014 World Cup retained the classic look Brazil is known for. A traditional combination of yellow with green details, without large graphic patterns or striking prints on the front.
Inside the collar, there was a subtle detail: the word "Canarinho", the nickname of the Brazilian national team when playing in their famous yellow shirts.
Brazil's logo received a small update in 2014. The emblem was made slightly sleeker and given a subtle gold outline, which made the logo stand out a bit more on the shirt.
In addition, the text "Brasil" below the logo, which was present on earlier Brazil shirts, disappeared.
The shirt numbers also received a new design in 2014. Brazil had used the same style for years, but for this World Cup, Nike developed a customised font inspired by classic Brazilian street posters and urban typography.
In addition, the numbers were given a fluorescent outline, making them more visible on the field during matches.
Brazil's away shirt for the 2014 World Cup had a blue base with a blue V-neck and subtle horizontal colour gradients in lighter shades of blue. According to Nike, these details symbolised energy and movement, with influences from the ocean and Brazilian surf culture.
Small details were also considered. Inside the collar, Nike incorporated the Southern Cross, the same stars that appear on the Brazilian flag. This referred to the starry sky above Rio de Janeiro during the proclamation of the Brazilian republic in 1889.
That tournament seemed to be built entirely around Neymar, until he was injured in the quarter-final against Colombia after a collision with Zúñiga. Neymar did not play any further part in the tournament.
A few days later, the historic 7-1 defeat to Germany followed.
As a result, these shirts are always associated with a strange mixed feeling in Brazil.
2018 World Cup - Russia
For the 2018 World Cup, Nike opted for a slightly brighter and more vibrant yellow colour than previous Brazil shirts. With this, Nike consciously tried to evoke the iconic Brazil shirt from the 1970 World Cup, the tournament that was widely broadcast in colour for the first time globally and in which Brazil stood out even more with its bright yellow shirts.
The base remained classic Brazil, of course: yellow combined with green details, supplemented with white and blue from the federation logo.
Brazil's away shirt for the 2018 World Cup used the same base as the home shirt, but entirely in royal blue. A striking pattern of stars ran across the front of the shirt, making the design instantly look different from previous Brazilian away shirts.
Despite that modern pattern, the shirt remained clearly recognisable as a Brazil away shirt, precisely because of the classic blue colour that has been associated with the national team for years.
A small detail was incorporated on the back of the collar and along the neckband, where Nike added blue and yellow accents.
Sportingly, the World Cup ended disappointingly for Brazil. Belgium proved too strong in the quarter-finals.
2022 World Cup - Qatar
For the 2022 World Cup, Nike opted for a brighter yellow than many previous Brazil shirts. The official colour name was “Dynamic Yellow”, giving the shirt a more striking appearance than the more traditional yellow hues of previous years.
The design itself featured several subtle details. The green collar had a thin blue line as a trim, and a subtle jaguar pattern was incorporated into the fabric throughout the shirt. This pattern also appeared on the blue away shirt, making both designs clearly belong together.
The colour combination of yellow, green, and blue also brought to mind Brazil's 2002 World Cup shirt, the one in which Brazil became world champions. As a result, the 2022 shirt felt to many like a modern homage to that generation of Ronaldo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho.
Brazil's away shirt for the 2022 World Cup combined a bright blue base with light green details on the Nike swoosh. The official colours were “Paramount Blue”, “Dynamic Yellow”, and “Green Spark”. The shirt is much more striking than the away shirts of a few years ago.
Neymar played a strong tournament and seemed fully fit for a World Cup again. In the quarter-final against Croatia, he scored a beautiful goal in extra time, equalling Pelé's record as Brazil's all-time top scorer.
Nevertheless, Brazil was eliminated again after a penalty shootout.
As a result, this too became a World Cup shirt that is mainly remembered for what almost happened.
2026 World Cup - United States, Canada, Mexico
Neymar has also been called up for the upcoming World Cup. Brazil will, of course, play in new kits again. Once again home in yellow, away in blue.
The home shirt is clearly a traditional Brazil shirt again. The yellow color is central, but this time it is combined with two different shades of blue: a light minty shade and a darker blue-green. It's a modern twist on the classic Brazil shirt.
Notably, the away kit is a collaboration with Jordan. This makes Brazil the first national team to collaborate with Jordan and have an official match kit.
Brazil's away kit for the 2026 World Cup immediately stands out due to its striking color combination. Jordan uses a bright blue base combined with black details, although some elements in photos appear dark blue rather than completely black.
For the colors, Jordan was inspired by the poison dart frog. A small, brightly colored frog found in the rainforests of South and Central America. This gives the shirt a completely different look from previous Brazil away kits.
The Jordan logos and other details are executed in bright yellow, while aqua-colored panels along the sides add extra contrast.
Inside the collar, it says "Vai Brasa". Loosely translated: "Go Brazil".
Which Neymar World Cup shirt remains the most memorable?
That remains difficult to say.
For some, it's the classic yellow shirt from 2014, purely because of the expectations surrounding the home World Cup.
Others might think of the blue away kit from 2018 or the jaguar shirt from 2022.
What all these shirts have in common is that they are directly linked to Neymar as the face of Brazil in a whole generation of international tournaments.
